The Center for Civic Engagement

The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) works with communities within and beyond Binghamton University's campus to provide various rewarding and meaningful opportunities to students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. The CCE supports the attainment of academic, personal and professional growth through civic engagement to develop active and engaged citizens.

Firefighter

Many fire departments in the local area are 100% volunteer-based and always looking for more help. While local career fire departments like the City of Binghamton, Johnson City and the Village of Endicott do not accept volunteers, many others do.

Emergency Medical Technician

Are you interested in operating on an ambulance and helping people who are experiencing medical emergencies? If so, many of the local ambulance agencies are volunteer-based.

Broome County Hazardous Materials Team

Broome County Office of Emergency Services 

The hazmat team responds to hazardous chemical releases to stabilize and mitigate the incident. The team is comprised 100% of volunteers and its members are trained at various levels of response capabilities.

Broome County Water Rescue and Dive Team

Broome County Water Rescue and Dive Team 

The Broome County Water Rescue and Dive Team consists of an all-volunteer membership of over 20 certified divers and numerous support personnel.

Broome County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Broome CERT 

CERT members are an auxiliary force of trained workers who can respond, assist and support emergency professionals. This all-volunteer team is always accepting new members.

American Red Cross (Southern Tier, NY Chapter)

American Red Cross - Southern Tier Chapter

The American Red Cross has a variety of volunteer opportunities available for adults, youth (under age 18) and youth groups. Our volunteers provide direct client assistance, educate and prepare the community in life-saving techniques and provide valuable community service throughout our region.
